I just don't feel like it!

My eyes wide open, staring at the ceiling, with random thoughts flashing through my mind. The alarm rings, time to go to church, but I don't feel like going. In fact, today I don't feel like doing anything, I just wanna lay in my bed, Bruno Mars on it. As I continued to reason for a few more minutes my body and spirit began to debate it out, each having a chance to convince my mind whether to stay or go, and there I was, an audience convinced with the current speaker until the other rebuttals.

Out of nowhere, I hear a whisper in my mind, "Your commitment has to be stronger than your feelings". That statement from Bill Wilson’s book "Whose Child is this?" was like a knock-out punch to the body. My spirit won so the body was forced to concede, stand up and prepare for church.

Every day you and I are faced with things to do, some are important and others not quite so, and it's not every time you have the willpower or motivation to dala "do" what you must. Laziness feels so delicious like a plate of chicken & rice after a long Sunday sermon. I mean, let the body rest "mos tog"?

I am thankful that I went to church, worshiped, took notes, prayed, and returned home. Nothing out of the ordinary happened, no blowing of the wind, no prophesy, no drama of casting out demons and sista Judith falling again, LOL. However, as I made the decision to go I become stronger in doing what is valuable to me despite what I felt. Little by little when you do something no matter how you may feel, your body begins to follow your decisions. If you struggle to do things when you feel discouraged or lazy, here is a trick that always works for me.

Remember how when you go on social media and are like “I’m just gonna see a few posts, maybe watch some videos and I will be out in no time”. Yeah neh! We’ve all been there. Before you know it, 3 hours have passed and it’s bedtime. If “Just a little bit” works for social media, it can work for other things as well. All you need to do is just start. Just do something. It can be as small as standing up from bed, opening the book and writing the first sentence, reading 1 page of the book you have been delaying, searching the phone number of the person you need to call, tapping water into the washing machine, or just getting into the shower for a bath.

Once you take the first step, the rest will follow, the motivation will come and the thing that you dreaded doing will be done. The reward will not just be a task completed but a sense of confidence that you were able to kill that Goliath of thing in front of you. You will become a stronger and better decision-maker in the end.

So the next time you don't feel like doing something that is of importance, go 'Nike' on it, “Just Do It”.

My soul truly got blessed by this one… I was struggling to wake up and pray. At 3am. I wasn’t tired or feeling sleepy, just was not willing but then visited your blog and boom I was on my knees because I was encouraged to Just Do It
